The final race in the Seattle Cyclocross series came back to the Evergreen State Fairgrounds in Monroe and was greeted with copious amounts of rain. The racers were treated with deep mud and double points that were important in deciding the overall series winners.
In the men’s race, Steve Fisher (Revel Consulting/Rad Racing) and Logan Owen (Redline) jumped out to an early lead. They were chased by Eric Emsky, Morgan Schmitt (Cyclocrossracing.com) and John Christian-Flack (Olympia Orthopedic). Emsky would suffer two flats during the race and fall back. Fisher keep hitting the gas on Owen until he finally got away for the solo finish. Schmitt would follow in third and Christian Flack in fourth. Benji Perin (Second Ascent) would round out the top five in fifth. Fisher also won the series overall ahead of Owen and Christian-Flack.
In the women’s race, Kari Studley (Redline) took the win ahead of Natasha Hernday (Mafia) and Courtenay McFadden (Cycling Northwest). Cycle U-Pop Cap teammates Melanie Lewis and Kristi Berg rounded out the top podium. McFadden won the series overall ahead of Hernday and Lewis.
