Region’s Best Set to Take Flight at Washington State Cyclocross Championship

SEATTLE, WA – October 12, 2011 – The 2011 edition of the WSBA Washington State Cyclocross Championship is coming to the Arlington Airport Park in Arlington, WA, Sunday December 4. The new venue will be adjacent to the Arlington Airport, home of annual experimental airplane fly-in events, and offers plenty of wide open space with lots of challenges for this off-road cycling event. The championship course is a “mixture of fast, slow, wide open speed, tight slow technical turns, mud bog, deeeeep grass run, ginormous sand pit, and roots!” according to course designers and Cycle U – PopCap Cyclocross Team racers Chad and Kristi Berg.

Bikesport Racing and its sponsor Bikesport bicycle shop in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood are the organizing force behind the event, with support from 20/20 Fuel Cycling, the WSBA, and the cyclocross community in general. Proceeds from the event will support Bike Works: A non-profit organization focused on empowering youth in underserved neighborhoods in southeast Seattle through a variety of mentoring programs and innovative riding opportunities.

Races begin at 9:15 am and continue through mid-afternoon, with award ceremonies after each race. Spectators are encouraged to bring cowbells, rubber boots and cameras.
