Calling all volunteers….

Greetings all you Cross Racers out there! The Seattle Cyclocross Series is continuing the tradition of requesting course clean-up volunteers. The organizers of the series work long and hard to find and prepare venues and put on a most-excellent cross series for us all but they need our help at the end of the day. If your team is interested in helping with course clean-up after one of the 7 series races, let me know! As in the past, I try to sign up at least two teams for each race so that the work can get done quickly and easily. If you are not on a team but want to help out- just zap me an e-mail. Better yet, just plan on staying after for one of the races and lending a hand.

It’s clear that leaving the venues in as good condition as possible plays a big part in returning to that venue the next year. For this and many other reasons, SCX appreciates the help teams and racers provide for this task!

Contact Debbie at debdriver@yahoo.com to let me know if you are interested and/or if you have any questions.
Cheers!

Debbie Driver

It’s never too early to get your cross on!

I know, it’s only August, it’s warm outside, and summer has only just started. But we all know this is the time we lay the ground work down for a successful cross season. Here are 2 ways to improve your cross racing this month.

Come join Cycling Northwest for early season Cyclocross Classes!

Let Russell Stevenson prepare you for the coming Cyclocross season. This is a basics course that covers the fundamentals of Cyclocross. Each week will be a progression of the previous. Attendees are encouraged to sign up for all 4 classes for maximum benefit.

Ideal participants are Entry to Sport level, male or female. Other ability levels welcome but the class will be focused on the basics: Barrier Running, Mounting and Dismounting, Bike Shouldering, Run-Ups, Cornering and Bike Handling.

Mark Thursday – August 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th from 6pm to 8pm on your calendars. For more information, please visit http://www.cyclingnorthwest.com/2010/07/cnw-cyclocross-prep/

Although it is a road race, the extensive dirt sections make the race very ‘cross friendly.  In fact, most of the road riders argue that it’s really a cross race with some paved sections — IOW a cross crit.

Riders will do 7-10 laps of a 2 mile circuit that’s 1m chipseal and 1m hard doubletrack.  There is a short, rough climb of about 200m.
